Upcoming research proposal deadlines and LIRA launch

You are here

Dear Lehigh faculty and research staff,

As the launch of the LIRA system approaches, we want to provide you with details about how we will handle proposal deadlines near the launch date of Monday, March 6.

In order to have a stable environment for conversion of Banner proposal and award data during the cutover weekend (March 3rd through 5th), we will hold any new proposal entries and any new award setups in Banner during that period of time.

If you are planning to submit a proposal between now and mid March, please read the following information.

Before LIRA goes live on March 6th:

Deadlines before or on March 6th

  • We will follow the current submission process for all proposals due before 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 2nd
  • For those due between March 3rd and March 6th, ORSP requests that your proposal be submitted to the sponsor via our current process no later than 5:00pm Thursday, March 2nd

After LIRA goes live on March 6th:

Deadlines between March 7th and 10th

  • Proposal development and support will follow the current business process prior to LIRA going live, with ORSP.
  • Unless you can complete your proposal and submit by March 2nd, there will be a combined effort between the PI, departmental support, and ORSP to enter proposal data into LIRA in order to submit to the sponsor on time, via the new LIRA process.
  • Please keep in mind that department chairs, or their delegates, will be approving your proposal before it moves to ORSP review, prior to submission to the sponsor.
  • Please communicate with your CGS if your deadline falls within this week. If you are unable to submit by March 2nd, we will review the approach for submission and populating within LIRA on a case by case basis.

Deadlines between March 10th and March 15th

  • Proposal development and support will follow the current business process prior to LIRA going live, with ORSP.
  • There will be a combined effort between the PI, departmental support, and ORSP to enter proposal data into LIRA for proposals initiated before cutover weekend.
  • Proposals will be completed within LIRA and submitted to the sponsor on time, via the new LIRA process.
  • Please keep in mind that department chairs, or their delegates, will be approving your proposal before it moves to ORSP review, prior to submission to the sponsor.

Deadlines after March 15th

  • PIs will initiate and develop their proposals with departmental support, and submit the full proposal in LIRA adhering to ORSP's submission policy.
  • Please keep in mind that department chairs, or their delegates, will be approving your proposal before it moves to ORSP for review prior to submission to the sponsor.

Hold for Award Set Up

  • If an award notice is received between 5:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, March 2nd and Tuesday, March 7th, award set up will be delayed. We will be working as quickly as possible to review and complete the award set up in LIRA and Banner post go-live.

If you have not already done so, we ask that you please be in touch with your contract and grant specialist in ORSP to start planning your proposals as soon as possible. Please ensure you continue to use the Intent to Submit to begin your proposal through ORSP prior to March 2nd.

We are committed to ensuring that you meet all of your upcoming proposal deadlines and that your awards are set up in Banner in a timely manner. Thank you for helping us be prepared.

Best regards,

Cynthia Kane
